About Us
Old Chapel Gallery, Pembridge, is situated in a key position on the popular black and white tourist trail in the heart of rural North Herefordshire. Established by Yasmin Strube in 1989 in the setting of a fine Victoria Chapel, the Gallery has gone from strength to strength and has established itself as a centre of excellence where casual browsers and serious collectors of contemporary art and crafts alike can find work by both established local and nationally-known artists and makers alongside innovative work by talented newcomers.
Comments in the visitors' book from all over the UK and overseas are testament to the pleasure given by a visit to this unique privately-owned gallery with its professional and friendly service.
Displayed
in the downstairs gallery is an ever changing kaleidoscope of crafts: Ironwork,
a particular strength - garden furniture - contemporary furniture - wood
turning - carving - three-dimensional work often using recycled or natural
material - fine hand-blown glass - sculpture - ceramics - jewellery and
textiles with a strong accent on knitwear. Yasmin started in the craft world
as a knitter and has always had a special interest in finding makers and
including top knitters in her exhibition line-ups.
On the fine art side as well as an eclectic range of original, framed watercolours, gouaches, oils, pastels, etchings and aquatints in the £75 to £500 price range, there is an interesting collection of unframed prints in browsers and a huge selection of cards. Exhibitions are held seasonally four times a year in the upstairs gallery - usually mixed media - which provides the opportunity to introduce new young makers alongside well-known names.
