With the winter chill only reluctantly disappearing and as the days slowly lengthen, we are welcoming the prospect of spring at Old Chapel Gallery, Pembridge with the second in our 2012 season of exhibitions, which starts on Saturday February 25th . Celebrating the extra “Leap Year” day we have an exhibition of etchings and stained glass by Frans Wesselman, etchings by Anna Ravenscroft and a new collection of vibrant ceramics from potter Mary Rose Young.
Anna’s work has its roots firmly planted in her childhood; her love of mountains, plants and animals are depicted in her exquisitely created etchings of hares, wolves, cats and lambs.
A degree in painting and printmaking was followed by a Post Graduate Degree in Art Education. This led her to a teaching career which took her to wild parts to teach adults and children who were more deprived of the creative side of life. These days she works as a freelance artist and lives on a high windy ridge way that runs through mid Wales.
Frans grew up and trained in Holland. People are central to his work, which is based on the close observation of the natural world. Often his paintings, etchings and stained glass tell a story.
He is currently involved in "Godiva Awakes", an Olympics related arts project based in Coventry.
Mary Rose Young is a ceramic artist who creates unbelievably colourful pieces, from mugs and jugs to lamp bases and candleholders. Each piece carries the individuality of the artist's own hand with her unique blend of beauty and humour.
This exhibition will continue till the end of March 2012 and the gallery is open daily 11 - 5 and from 11 - 4 on Sundays.
