Garden Sculpture Exhibition 2011

Starts on Saturday May 7th and continues through the summer. After the rigours of winter we look forward to longer days, balmy evenings and Summer around the corner, our thoughts are tuning to our gardens. With this in mind Old Chapel Gallery, Pembridge opens it’s annual garden sculpture exhibition showing the work of talented designer/makers in a variety of media. Sculptress, Rachel Ducker first showed her work here in 2007 and returns by popular demand. Rachel originally trained as a jeweller but her fascination and love for working with metal led her to experiment with wire as a medium for sculpting the human form. Accomplished in life drawing, her sculptured wire figures concentrate on the expressive and emotional dynamics of human nature. Some of Rachel’s pieces are life size and others would suit smaller courtyard settings, all are suitable for outdoor display.Artist blacksmiths Christy Bowdler, Paul Margetts, Ian Gill, Neil Lossock and Sally Gaston will be showing a collection of their latest work in forged steel to include water features, poppies, ferns, sheep, herons, hares, owls as well as abstract pieces along with practical garden furniture and plant supports. Some will be galvanised to protect them from the weather. Miranda Michels sculpts her pieces from stainless steel and mild steel. Every piece is a one off with no casting or reproduction involved. For this exhibition Miranda has made some kingfishers. Sculptor David England who lives and works in Herefordshire has carved some new smaller pieces using Portland and Forest Of Dean stone, each one unique. Finally, sculptor Helen Sinclair, a long established artist with the gallery, produces limited edition and unique contemporary sculpture in stone resin.
